After reading this set of verses a few times, I realized that this passage was more than one of David's psalms; it was a word spoken, through David, directly by God. The passage starts by saying, "Because he set his love on me, therefore I will save him." Who is being saved, and why not save him before "he" sets his love on you? Because at this time, to place your love on someone is a sign of acceptance and welcome. The person being saved would be David himself, which would lead to the question, "Is David talking about himself?" No, David is speaking what God spoke to him. Simultaneously, as I read this passage, I also noticed a continuous use of the word "will," as if stating a promise, making it certain. As you look and read the passage yourself, it is also clear these aren't just any kind of promises; This passage is full of promises of provision, protection, and security based on a condition, the condition of loving and knowing God. God doesn't make these promises to just anyone; He makes these promises to those who trust in Him, accept Him, and know Him. At the same time, these promises aren't simply made in psalms; they are found in Proverbs, Ephesians, Philippians, and all throughout the Bible. Knowing God comes with benefits beyond material items. God, as our father and creator, promises to protect us, to provide for us, and to grant us security. There is a peace in knowing God, and a benefit far more valuable than the temporary things on earth. In knowing this, God grants us a path to know Him, a path through His son Jesus Christ, the only way, life, and truth.
