"Imperfectly Perfect." An odd phrase considering how you can't be both perfect and imperfect at the same time. It's impossible, to put it simply, and yet, somehow possible. As I read the passage of today's devotional, I realize that David is praising God for making him exactly the way he is. Now, David is far from perfect; He has committed adultery, murder, and abandoned his kingly duties in laziness. Despite that, David is still named "The man after God's own Heart." He has sinned and fallen short, yet he still finds favor in the eyes of God. He was imperfect, yet found perfect in the eyes of God. David was clean, not by man's standard, but by God's, and all because he had faith. It was by faith that David became the man after God's own heart, it was by faith that David could repent of his ways, and it was by faith that David was found favored by God. Just like the rest of us, David was human, flawed, and unworthy of God's grace, but in his faith, David chased after God endlessly. David saw God's power in His creation, among other things, and worshiped Him for it. Yes, David was imperfect, but every part of him was made intentionally by God's hands. God made us the same way He made David, intentionally, and in the same way David was made clean through faith, we too can be made clean through faith. This does not dissolve us of our trials nor tribulations, it grants us a new path; a path of imperfect perfection found only in the grace of God. A path where, despite our flaws and shortcomings, God looks at us with favor because we have chosen to faithfully chase Him endlessly.
